About SSPI Featuring Rob Phoenix
I’ve been interested in the Paranormal practically all my life. I started early on with high school friends and as a group, we all got into this together. Black Star Canyon in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA was my first major introduction into the supernatural. I’ve gotten to do several investigations on the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA. The haunted swimming pool, hallways, and the maintenance areas below the ship are some of the most active areas of the ship you’ll find. Gotten to explore ghost towns in the outskirts of Death Valley, with some experiences of disembodied voices, figures appearing on roofs, orbs, audible conversations in empty buildings.
My most interactive and amazing experiences were when working at the Whaley House in Old Town, San Diego. Had multiple personal experiences, such as curtains moving at night after hours, orbs, footsteps when alone in the house, feeling watched, shadows moving around the main stairs and around the theater. A lot of events that piqued my interest in the paranormal even more. Learning the history of the house and Old Town SD itself, working with the SOHO organization, and some amazing people that I got to work with at Whaley House added to the great memories and energy that house holds.
I moved to PA in 2009 and have roamed around Gettysburg battlefield multiple times and have loved learning the lore and history of some of the most haunted locations around the East Coast. I’ve always been fascinated with ghosts and energy and have felt the purpose of wanting to understand the history of haunts. Not just getting the thrill of fear, but the story of a place or person that still stays on this plane. I bring years of personal and research experience, work ethic, an open mind, and knowledge to this team that we are growing here and I look forward to helping uncover stories waiting to be told.
Investigations: Video evidence
List of tools and electronic equipment commonly used in investigations:Audio digital voice recorder: used to record EVP.Digital camera: used to photograph during an investigation.Video Cam: often set up on a home to cover hot spots in a haunted location.I.R.camera and/or light: Infared light which is used in investigations to see in the dark.Full Spectrum camera: camera that sees and takes images in the full spectrum of light: infared and ultra-violet.E.M.F. meter. Meters can be digital or analogue and are used to measure the level of electromagnetic frequency in a location.K-2 meter: an emf meter that uses lights from green, to yellow, orange and red to determine emf levels. Typically not accurate and susceptible to false readings and interference from electronic devices, radio signals, etc. RemPod: a device that emits emf into the environment directly around the antennae. When anything comes into close proximity to the rempod, it will flash lights and a high pitched beeping sound. The theory is that spirits moving close to the device will block the emf and cause the device to activate.Ovilus: an electronic device that emits words audibly and visually. The theory is that if you ask questions to it, it will answer with intelligent responses.SB-7 Ghost Box: an electronic device that scans radio frequencies rapidly across the band. The theory is that spirits can communicate through the white noise produced by manipulating radio frequencies.SLS Camera: stands for Structured Light Source. This technology was used for the Wi gaming device or Xbox. In paranormal investigating, it maps human forms as stick figures using infared light. If it is pointed at an empty space it may pick up a human stick figure where there is no person. The theory is that it is “seeing” a spirit form and mapping it.Paranormal Puck: An electronic device in the shape and size of a hockey puck, it is designed to connect to a control device like a computer or phone. It monitors EMF, temperature, humidity, light levels, barometric pressure, movement, ionization, and static levels and can produce ITC (internet technology communication, i.e.texting) sessions using remote wi-fi and will show data on a cell phone or computer. In simple terms, it will talk to you from a distance! Ethical Standards1. Falsifying Evidence – is a huge ethical breach and will not be tolerated.2. No drinking or drug use before or during investigations3. No occult practices: witchcraft, satanism or Ouija Board use during an investigation.4. No criminal behavior, theft, vandalism, etc.5. No slander or libel against other investigators or groups6. Be careful of excessive use of profanity.7. No charging money or requiring donations for investigations. Donations may be accepted.8. No trespassing. You must get permission from the owners before entering a location.9. Take care of all equipment. Return all equipment in good working order.10. Assist in set-up and tare down as needed and as able.11. Attend all meetings and investigations when possible. Please give 24-hour notice of you cannot attend. Excessive absence or lateness to meetings, and investigations, could mean termination from SSPI.12. Be kind, thoughtful, considerate, and patient with each other at all times.13. Try and read and learn about the paranormal field as much as you are able.14. Learn how to effectively use the equipment, how it works, and why it is used by investigators in the field.15. No provoking. (There may be instances when it is necessary, but that is rare.) Client Rights1. All evidence will be turned over to the client in four to six weeks or sooner.2. No evidence obtained at a client’s residence will be used by SSPI for promotion or on the SSPI website without the express permission and knowledge of the client.3. Maintain confidentiality with clients at all times. No posting of names, photos, or locations online.4. No religious beliefs will be forced upon other team members or clients.5. During an investigation, members will respect the client’s wishes, be respectful of their home, and remove all equipment and clean up the residence before leaving.6. Make no promises to the client regarding cleansing or removing paranormal activity in the home. 7. Do not share experiences or evidence with the client until all evidence has been reviewed by the team.8. Return to the residence as many times as the client requires until peace of mind is restored. 9. Schedule a reveal when all evidence is reviewed. Sit down with the client and explain all findings and evidence. Make suggestions as needed to restore peace of mind. Suggest appropriate action for the client. Types of hauntings ResidualLike a videotape playing over and over again at random times. Residual haunting is trapped or imprinted energy on an environment. This may occur because something traumatic happened at the location, as in death or suicide. A residual haunting does not have intelligence. There is no consciousness there to acknowledge you or anything that is going on. So doing EVP sessions at a location with only residual activity will get no results because there is nothing there with consciousness to respond. Residual activity usually has a trigger that causes the “tape” to play and the activity to occur. The trigger may be a time of year, day, or an event such as an argument or even something like playing music. Determining what the trigger is is key to capturing it. The theory is that materials in the bedrock of a location such as quartz or moving water can increase the chances of a residual haunting.
IntelligentThe most common type of haunting investigated. This type of haunting has intelligence, or consciousness associated with it. For those that believe ghosts are spirits of the dead, this is the consciousness of that deceased individual. It can respond to questions, react to trigger objects, and interact in many ways with investigators. in this type of haunting you are only limited by your ingenuity when it comes to thinking of ways to interact with whatever might be there.
PoltergeistPoltergeist means “noisy ghost” or“rumble ghost” in German. Poltergeist activity may be caused by dark entities, generally evil or demonic. However, it is now believed that poltergeist activity is caused by a living human who is referred to as the human agent. The human agent historically has been a female going through puberty, although there have been some cases of males as well as older females. It is believed that the changes of emotional, psychological, and physical variables result in the activity manifesting. This activity is believed to be psycho-kinetic or PK in nature. This means that the person is able to move physical objects with their mind. This may come as a result of a self-preservation reaction by the brain when the subject is not dealing with things in a healthy way. Activity can include large objects being thrown around a room, pennies raining from the ceiling, people being scratched, punched, or pinched. In some poltergeist cases, physical or sexual abuse may be at the center of the activity. Determining who the human agent is, is the key to stopping the activity and this can be done by observing who is present when activity occurs. By process of elimination you can figure out who the human agent is and once they are made aware that they may be causing this activity to occur, it usually stops.
InhumanInhuman hauntings refer to any haunting caused by something that never walked the earth as a human. This includes angelic, animal, and elemental hauntings. Angelic and animal hauntings are pretty self-explanatory, but elemental hauntings are less well known. Elemental refers to the ancient idea of the elements Earth, Water, Wind, Fire, and Earth as the fundamental building blocks of nature. Elementals are referred to by various names. In the English European tradition, these include Fairies, Elves, Devas, Brownies, Leprechauns, Gnomes, Sprites, Pixies, Banshees, Goblins, Dryads, Mermaids, Trolls, Dragons, Griffins, and numerous others. Included are demonic hauntings that are very dangerous and should not be treated lightly. The extremely rare demonic haunting has all the hallmarks of a poltergeist haunting with a few exceptions. Religious items displayed in the home will go missing or be turned around or upside down. The smell of sulfur during activity occurring. Often one person is affected more than others and behavior changes are noted. However, it is hard to say if this is a psychological result of living in a haunted location or if something outside of that person is affecting them adversely. Other signs of a demonic haunt are growling sounds, mood changes or depression, anger or rage, illness, loud bangs, dark shadow figures, and poltergeist activity. Demonic hauntings are very serious, and also very rare.
